Room Service Atlanta began in 2010 with Dayka Robinson and Erika Ward exchanging text messages wondering how they could further engage the design community and contribute to the Atlanta landscape. What followed was a series of emails, late-night phone calls, and brainstorming sessions with an idea to combine their love for design with their commitment to serve others, and thus Room Service was born.
In October 2012, RSA will redesign six apartments for the United Methodist Children’s Home’s Independent Living Program (Decatur). UMCH offers 11 different programs available to children, teens, and families in the North Georgia area including Foster Care, Adoption, Independent Living, Transitional Living, Summer Camp, Family Housing, Family Counseling, After Care, Parenting Classes and Financial Aid. With a mission to provide redemptive healing services that bring change to the lives of children & families, UMCH offer holistic & therapeutic programs focused on identifying new ways of thinking & living to create successful and meaningful lives forever.
Our focus is on the The Independent Living Program, a voluntary program serving youth in the foster care system who are at least 17 and ready for a decreased level of supervision as they prepare for independence. UMCH staff provide 24-hour support to the youth, who are housed in studio-style apartments on the campus. Staff also teach youth to maintain skills of daily living, support and guide youth in obtaining educational, vocational and employment opportunities, assist youth in obtaining medical services and securing mental health services as neededand much more! This project gives hope and inspiration back to our children as they transition into adulthood. Contributions to UMCH are fully tax-deductible.
As designers, bloggers, and social media enthusiasts, we hope to engage our extended networks to positively impact the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves. We consider it a blessing to wake up everyday and pursue a life in design and are excited to share our love of design with others. By reaching out to our fellow designers & vendors we hope to not only make new connections, but to also foster a more tangible spirit of giving.
Room Service Atlanta is currently seeking in-kind donations to assist us in creating beautiful, nourishing environments we feel everyone deserves. Furniture, artwork, lighting, bedding, window treatments, floor coverings, paint, and other home improvement items would greatly enhance the living spaces at UMCH and aid in our efforts to bring security, peace, and comfort to Atlanta citizens in transition.
